Wild Card (Elite Ops #1)

It was supposed to be simple. All Navy SEAL Nathan Malone had to do was rescue three young girls from a Colombia drug cartel, then allow himself to be captured just long enough to draw out a government spy. That was before his mission went disastrously wrong…and before his wife, Bella, was told that Nathan was never coming home.

Bella’s mourned her husband’s death for three long years. But she has no idea he’s still alive. Forced to assume a new identity, the man Nathan was is now dead. If he can get back to his wife, can he keep the secret of who he really is…even as desire threatens to consume them? And as danger threatens to tear Bella from Nathan’s arms once more?

Wild Card is the first book in Lora Leigh’s Elite Ops romantic suspense series - a spin-off of her Tempting SEALS series. I have not read the Tempting Seals series, but it did not seem to be necessary to follow the story, and was fine as a stand alone, though I obviously did not know the back story on a few characters.
We have Nathan Malone a Navy SEAL, who was rescued after 19 months of captivity and torture, within that time has was declared dead to his wife,. He is given the choice to join a secret unit called Elite OPS and instead of going home to his wife (whom he assumes has moved on) he feels he is too damaged mentally and physically (he is seriously damaged and needs major surgery and months and months of healing time and physical therapy). He assume the new identity of Noah Blake AKA Wild Card.
He is informed his wife is in danger and Nathan/Noah’s return to his hometown for a mission after being dead for the past six years - but no worries his face, voice, and body are all different.

Nathan/Noah and Bella’s (His Wife) go back and forth and she fights an attraction to him. She is not over her husband. She still grieves.

This book hurt my heart, you have two broken people that just need each other, but he was so darn stubborn. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the rest of the series.
